Today I’ve Integrated…
CHASING DISTANT PEOPLE HIDES THE FEAR OF INTIMACY
When we find ourselves drawn to people who are emotionally unavailable, distant or inconsistent, it’s because we fear true intimacy. Rather than seeing someone’s absence or emotional distance as a red flag, we get accustomed to it thinking that their distance is an act of love. If moving on from them is hard, it’s because an unconscious part of you still believes healing depends on winning them over.
You’re not trying to prove yourself to them. You’re trying to prove you’re not abandonable.
You’re not addicted to them. You’re addicted to the emotional highs from their inconsistency.
You’re not in love with them. You’re in love with the idea of being chosen by someone who doesn’t want you.
Sometimes we get so caught up trying to heal in the same dynamics that originally wounded us that we chase distant people. Not because we truly desire to be with them, but because their distance allows us to feel emotionally involved without requiring the raw exposure that true intimacy demands.
