Today I’ve Integrated…

THE RISK OF ASKING PROVES YOU MATTER

It’s human nature to rely on others with the hope that our needs will be met. But when the people we trusted for help fail to be there when we needed them the most, we can internalize the belief that needing others is dangerous. So the next time you feel resistance to ask for help, remember that it’s an invitation for others to prove in a meaningful way that you matter to them.

Not asking may protect you from hurt, but it also keeps you from remembering what it’s like to feel held.
Not asking may protect you from abandonment, but it also keeps you from remembering what it’s like to feel accepted.
Not asking may protect you from betrayal, but it also keeps you from remembering what it’s like to feel belonging.

It’s true, there is no way to ask for help without the risk of possibly being let down. But refusing to ask also guarantees that no one will ever have the chance to support you when you need it most. Healing doesn’t come from the refusal to need help—it comes from the courage to risk asking for help when your entire history taught you not to.
