Today I’ve Integrated…

MEET YOURSELF WHEN OTHERS CAN’T MEET YOUR NEEDS

Sometimes when we care about a person or situation, it can cloud our sense of judgment of our own value where we assume that if our efforts aren’t landing the way we want, it’s because something is wrong with us. So if you find yourself emotionally overinvesting into people and situations more than they’re able to sustain, remember it’s because your needs are not being met.

If the absence from a person bothers you, what you have is an unmet need for presence.
If the resistance from a coworker bothers you, what you have is an unmet need for reciprocity.
If the distance from a group bothers you, what you have is an unmet need for connection.

Most of the time, what we’re reacting to when we overextend ourselves is not the situation itself, but the unmet needs we’re deeply craving beneath it. The self-assurance we often seek from our unmet needs doesn’t come from giving more than the situation can hold. It comes by how deeply you can allow yourself to be met when others can’t, and choosing a higher path that doesn’t abandon your needs in the process.
